This week is Mental Health Awareness week and our very own Mental Health Champion – Lewis Kirkbride has been a very busy bee! Last year Lewis completed a heroic 1066 battle walk for mental health charity ManHealth. This saw him walk from Stamford Bridge in York to Battle (near Hastings) in approx. 4 stone of 11th century arms and armour, echoing the desperate march of King Harold in 1066 to defend his kingdom. The reason Lewis did this was to mirror the burden of living with a mental health related issue. Lewis’ walk raised almost £27,000 and his endeavour continues to this day!
Lewis will be undertaking another 40 miles walk in June and featured in local press over the weekend. This year Lewis would retrace the steps of another historical hero, Hereward The Wake, as he walks from Peterborough Cathedral to Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire, recreating Hereward’s first actions as a freedom fighter. To find out more about the Hereward Charity Challenge on 2nd and 3rd of June, go to https://www.facebook.com/HerewardCharityChallenge/, or visit https://www.manhealth.org.uk/ to find help for yourself or others.
Good luck Lewis!
